Bangladesh’s readymade garment (RMG) industry, one of the world’s largest apparel manufacturing bases, has secured a major growth driver in 2026 following a multi-million-pound partnership between British celebrity Coleen Rooney and fast fashion giant Primark. The upcoming exclusive athleisure collection, set to launch globally in late 2026, will be predominantly produced in Bangladesh, further consolidating the country’s status as Primark’s largest global sourcing hub.
Industry data reveals that Primark sourced apparel products worth over $1.2 billion from Bangladesh in the 2024-2025 fiscal year, with nearly 94% of the retailer’s global apparel supply chain linked to Bangladeshi manufacturing partners. The new athleisure line will be mainly produced in Savar and Gazipur industrial zones, two key apparel manufacturing clusters in Bangladesh, creating thousands of new jobs and driving up demand for high-quality knitted fabrics and sportswear accessories. Bangladeshi apparel exporters note that the partnership will not only boost short-term export volume but also help upgrade the country’s sportswear manufacturing capacity, a segment that has been growing rapidly in global demand.
Bangladesh’s RMG exports account for more than 80% of the country’s total merchandise exports, and the industry is actively promoting sustainable manufacturing and digital transformation to meet the strict requirements of international brands and expand its presence in the global premium apparel market.
